Melasma
Melasma is a skin disorder that causes the appearance of dark and discolored patches on the skin. It is also known as chloasma or “mask of pregnancy” which is common during pregnancy. Though it is a common condition in women, men can get it too.
The patches that appear are usually brown in color, and can be symmetrical on both sides of the face:
Cheeks
Forehead
Chin
Bridge of the Nose
The cause is unknown but darker-skinned people are more prone than those with fair skin. Estrogen and progesterone sensitivity can also cause melasma. Sun exposure is also considered to be another reason that aggravates it.
